Abstraction Pinterest
In Abstraction you have to break the rules. In abstraction the photos have to be unusual and eye catching. To take a good abstract photo the photo must either be unfocused in the background or foreground, take the photo from an unusual angle, the photo could be cropped or even something that stands out like lots of different shapes and shadows or have repetitive shapes like some of the photos above.Allot of abstract photos use bright colours and oftern these coours are primary colours.
Abstraction homework
For this task we had to take nine abstract photos for homework.I think the first photo went well because there are many differnt tones and repetitive shapes for exaple the steps or the banister to the left .The second photo is letters but you cant see through them, the letters are close to the camera and are in foucus and the background is out of foucus, this photo could have been better if i took the photo closer to the letters so you could see more of the background and if I took the photo somwhere else like the street so if I took the photo there would be more to see in the background and made the background in focus instead of the foreground so there would be cropping.I think the third photo went well because the background is out of focus and in the photo there are bright colours like yellow, blue, red and pink.I think the forth photo went well because it is an unusal angle and has a bright blue sky in the background which makes the bird feeder in the foreground stand out more.i think the sixth photo wen well because you cant tell what is in the background because the photo was taken through saftey glass so its not clear but you can see pieces of thin metal going through the glass so the photo could have been better if i made the metal pieces straight and not at an angle. The seventh photo went well because there is a repition of the same shape and the colours are very bright.the eighth photo went well because the photo was taken with tights over the lence so you cannot see clearly what the photo is of and there are differnt colours in the photo.
Focus mask
We watched a video from Anna Lucas which helped us with the idea for this sculpture. I originally started with just one piece of paper and I then folded it and cut it and folded it more and stuck other materials to it like the orange piece of plastic that is opaque and leaves a orange light instead of a shadow. When I was taking the photos I had to take them in the best angle and also make the most interesting shadows. I could without anything else in the back ground but the white table.
Before we did this task we watched a video about a woman called Anna Lukas and she made sculptures and then photographed them.I think that the photographs are quite successful. This is because I have photographed the paper sculptures close up and therefore managed to use the sculpture as a mask. I went round the school taking photos with the sculpture.I took photos of the whole building and some simple ones like the one of the bricks.I think I did most of this task easily but I kinda struggled with doing the simple photos because I don't instantly notice a good simple photo. These photos would be better if I took longer to take the simple photos and thought about it more and if I cropped the photos so it wouldnt show what you could see around the sculpture unless I wanted the photo to be that way.
I think this is the best photo out of them all because this photo is split into two because the sculpture is taking up the left side of the photo.I like how you can see the background through the orange plastic on the left.I also like the perspective lines to the tight on the railing.I also like how the black line goes straight through the middle of the photo.I think this photo could have been better if there was better lighting on the sculpture and the background was more in focus.

John Baldasarri
John baldasarri is and abstract artist who lived in America and he would find film photo's and fim negatives in bins and would print them and put bright shapes such as circles that are red, green, blue, yellow over peoples faces to make them abstract.John is an artist not a photographer because he didnt take his own photos,he found the pieces of film.I like his work because the bright colours would catch your eye and then make you look at the image and usually the black and white photo would be very intersting like the photo above of the three men in suits. In John's pieces he often had people in his work and would put colour on there face ,usually so there face is coverd.
Hannah Hoch
Hannah Hoch a german artist started photographing in the early twenieth century. She would combine diferent photos toghther to make a quite startiling image but they are all very abstract because there all very unusaual.she was inspired by many surrealist artists and dada.she uses mixed media including photographs and paintings. There meant to represent feminism because hannah hock was a very well known artist at the time and it proved that women at good artists too.
Uta Barth No focus/out of focus
John Batho Unusual framing choices
Some of these photos aren't focused and are of people standing behind a piece of glass and on the glass there is condensation. The other photos are of different coloured tents and there is allot of unused space behind all of the photos.
This photo has sharp lines and is focused on the forks.I think this photo has been edited to make the photo black and white. There is allot of tone in this photo ,esspecially on the tips of the forks.there is allot of repitition in this photo, the forks are all the same size, shape and against the wall at the same angle. There is also reptition on the back of the wall because the shadow is the same shape too.I found this photo really eye catching because of the reptition and I like the simplisity of this photo.
paper sculptures
Evaluation
I made abstract photos using a piece of paper so I took sixteen complete images using the formal elements such as line, tone, shape etc. I found this task quite challenging because we couldn't get the background in the photo and had to make the images as abstract as possible. I made my piece of paper scrunched up and folded in one image. I made different tone using the light to make a shadow. These photos would have been allot better if I had taken the photos from a differnt angle instead of from above because the photos are really repetitve but only have differnt tones so if I did this again I would take a photo at a low angle and from a differnt side of the sculpture.I have thoughts about making the main part of the photo really visible but simple but having like a brick wall in the background so the paper stands out allot most instead of having white paper, whit table and a white wall in the background

For this homework I took sixteen differnt close up photos .
I think I did this task well because most of my photos were either out of focus in either the foreground or background, had bright colour which stood out from the rest of the photo and some photos were cropped. It wasn't easy finding the bright colours that stood out though.
Saul Leiter
I choose this photo because its eye catching and it stands out to me most. Its unusual because it is close up to the umbrella and the background is out of focus. I think the formal element that stands out the most is the out of focus because it takes up most of the photo and the plight pink at the top of the photo makes it nicer to look at and also makes the photo more eye catching.I think its important that the photo is out of focus because it makes you ask more questions about the photo. All of the photos Saul Leiter takes are abstract, they might be out of focus in the foreground or background, there cropped, reflections or close up or these together.

My final piece
I am planning to make a couple of final pieces , one of them will be close up portraits with a fisheye lens. I will be using my own camera. I also want to experiment by creating portraits with light painting. Another one of my final pieces will be my own version of John Balderssari's photography. I decided whilst I was doing my final piece that I wouldn't do light painting because it would take to much time and it would mean I would need other people to help me take the photos, so i decided to do reflection with mirrors instead.I used multiple fisheye photos to help as a bit of inspiration so I can't say I used one specific photographer and i didn't have any inspiration for the reflection photos.
I decided to use the reflection and the fisheye photos because I could do more with them then the my take on John Balderssari's photos.I used the refection photos because reflection is one of the abstract elements and I used the fisheye photos because the fisheye has a rounded crop which is also an abstract element.I made the fisheye in colour and the background in black and white so the main subject would stand out more.I took all the photos on my canon 100D,I used mirrors for the reflection photos. For my final piece I put the photos on top in black and white and put them in the background of the fisheye photos.I think it well because it is very abstract.its abstract from the fisheye cropping and the reflections in the background from the mirrors.I could have made it better if I used photoshop instead of cutting the image and putting it into place because the photo would have had a more cleaner look, because I cut it you can see the white from the paper.I also could have used better lighting for all of the photos.I decided to put the reflections in the back ground because I thought it adds to the photo instead of having the distorted background from the fisheye. I think I did quite well in abstraction and it came out how In wanted but I think I could still do better,I think I could have been more creative in abstraction but the work I did, I think I did well.
Wandering bears

The wandering bears came in to our school and set up things around the room such as a blue background, fruit, cups and many other things and there was photos around the room which we had to recreate using the objects.we had to recreate contemporary photographers work.
